Should I manure?
« on: November 05, 2007, 10:09 »
Right this my sound daft   but we are new to all this  :!:  :!:
Well here goes the plot we just got (2 days) ago needs a little work, we have been told that the last owner didn't rotate his crops, or that there has been no muck put down for over 4 years. Should we clear the plot then cover it in the stuff and leave it over winter :?:

Any advice :D
just beginners and got lots to learn

I have dug the whole of my plot and a few weeks ago I took delivery of a load of Manure I have spread it on the top of my soil to be dug in next February.

I have a large black tarpaulin which is big enough to cover the whole of my plot (100ft X 16ft). Will it be better to cover the Manure and plot with the Tarp to keep it semi warm so that the manure rots quicker , or am I better to leave the tarp off and let the winter weather get to everything?.

I'd leave it off - otherwise the middle will dry out badly (and leave the edges totally saturated).

See manure in the Glossary (Welcome Forum) since that contains some info on choosing manure

Carrot seed, parsnip seed, etc

Serious answer is that they need no feeding - they are happy with what has been left by earlier crops.
