Netting help
« on: June 03, 2012, 14:14 »
Hey all,

Well the birds have had all the cauliflower  :(, however I still have some to replace these so not all is lost.

I have but some debris netting (it's orange, plastic with pretty big holes), I have placed this a good few inch over my cabbage, in all honesty it doesn't look to secure so need to get ack out there!!!

Do I need to cover the sides? Will the birds enter is the side? Is the netting I have ok? Any suggestions where it's cheap for the job which I can get this weekend / bank hol?

How do you construct yours? Timber, ties etc

Thanks in advance

Last year I threw some netting over the top of my strawberries and the birds simply walked underneath. Someone on this site said he saw squirrels actually pulling up his pegs to get under the netting. I have chipmunks that will do the same so this year my netting will be bricked every 2 ft all along the permiter. The little beasts will need a lot of muscle power this year to get my best crop ever  8)
