i have just cut and shredded a mix of trees and bushes but can i use the conifer shreds for compost? i think i can re-cann that i cant?

you can use it anywhere matey if its all mixed in with other stuff .i wouldnt use that only for any mulching the toxics will be in bulk and leach down . just mix it with everything else add to it from the plot garden kitchen etc and it will be fine ,it actually helps to hold the soil open like feathers  :wink:

its all mixed with other bits ive shredded now

so i can dig it into my soil and gro veg in the same ground?

yes just treat it as normal compost when its done in spring etc .when making compost you need to allow air ,twigs etc do this by holding the compost open ,the conifer will do the same .its one of those things that you use a litle of,masses of it will poison the soil for certain no acidic likers  :wink: you can change the colour of rhodedendrons pink or blue by adding  or removing  components of the soil making it more neutral or alkaline

If the shreddings contain a lot of woody material, I'd recommend using them only for surface mulching and paths.

If not, then by all means compost in (2") layers with plenty of green material.  Use as normal next year.
