I had a bit of an impulse buy at the weekend, and bought two kiwi plants.

I'm now a bit scared to read they can grow upto 9m tall!!!

I was going to train them up the fence to my chicken pen, but now I'm wondering if I should grow them against my southwest facing wall.

Has anyone had any success growing Kiwi and producing edible fruit?

They can be quite rampant, but the big leaves are rather nice and it will cover a wall in no time. If it's too much of a thug keep the snippers handy. We never had any fruit on our's, but it was on a shady wall and after a few years OH got fed up and rooted it out.

I bought  a self fertile Kiwi(not jenny) ,and it said grows to about 4-5 metres.

I'd imagine where you are in France the weather is more suited to growing them,but you have

to wait a few years for fruit(Were they male and female kiwis,you need both to produce fruit)

Mine is on a south facing wall,with wire at 30cm up to 3m intervals,to support it ,when it

gets bigger

I have a kiwi Jenny which is about 3 years old now.  It half covers an arch over a path.  I do trim it to keep it restricted to the arch.  I have never had fruit yet but live in hope and this year it is covered in flowers for the first time! 

By the way, I had one in my old garden growing along a large trellis fence and that never fruited either!

OK, I think I'll put some strings up against my terrace wall and see how we go.

As we get rather warm temperatures during the summer, fingers corssed I get some fruit in the coming years!
