Last Christmas Eve I was panicking in Sainsbury's, and there was this woman, perfect make up, fashion du jour, swanning round with about 20 mangoes in her trolley - yep that was all.

I ranted to my mate about how I wanted to be that woman this year, as it's my turn to do Christmas dinner, she keeps asking what we're having "Something with Mangoes" I reply.

I notice from a search that Hayles62 got a job lot last Dec 14th (so it wasn't her - so no need for poison PM's), but this forum only suggested chutney or wine.

Nothing on the BBC website suggest the use of more than 2 mangoes for any dish.  What was she making????

Mango sorbet sounds good to round off lunch, but the BBC recipe which sounds great needs an ice cream maker.  Can anyone tell me how to make a sorbet without a machine?

PS: There was also a strange man with a trolley load of grapefruit, but I think I can guess what he was gonna do with those (no he did not have an economy pack of bin-liners in there too - I checked).

She was probably juicing them.

As far as I know an ice cream maker simply saves you the trouble of whisking up once or twice during the freezing process.  Never done it, but that's what I fink.

PS Mango ice cream is yummy.

The poshly dressed woman was probably having the servant/cook slice them up for a fresh fruit plate. They do taste a lot like peaches and are more readily available most of the year than peaches. People from the caribbean adore them so she could have been entertaining friends from that area.
