I have six chickens and they seem to have a great life really. They get fed a good quality layer pellet with corn mix as well. They eat up our veg waste etc as well. However, they always seem to be "on the scrounge" as soon as they hear the keys in the kitchen door. They Seem to be on the. Look out for treats or food all the time.

Is it possible to over feed them? I assume they won't eat if they are not hungry. Are chickens just naturally greedy? I am assuming they are not just pleased to see me!

It is possible to overfeed treats (anything which is not layers pellets/mash).

Hens can very easily get fat from too much grain, and this leads to egg laying problems, including egg binding and prolapses.

Overfeeding treats cal also lead to poor egg shell production, leading to internal broken eggs, prolapses and laying of shoft shell/shell less eggs.

Basically, yes it is possible to overfeed hens.

Limit treats to approximately 1 tablespoon per hen at the ned of the day, so they get a properly balanced diet before that
