Can't tell you specifically for this vareity. What I can tell you from first hand experience is that a few years ago I grew some heritage peas, of which I had only a few seed.

They were treated with care and wide spacing. They returned between 40 to 60 fold on the seed, depending on the variety.  I reckon a good average is 6 pods per plant. That's not to say you'll get a plant from each seed you sowed.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I grew these last year - at a guess I would say about 8 pods per plant, 6-8 peas per pod - tasty - very few ever made it to the kitchen.
My maths shows that bird is equal to or greater than the word...

So, for a pea loving family of 4 ( 2 adults + 2 teens) - what would be the recommended no. of plants??

Thinking this year I have no where near enough.....

You can never have anywhere near enough pea plants!

Dr. H. always says 1lb of (shelled) peas, per foot of row. That's at his recommended sowing rate of 12 plants per foot.

I think this is a bit optimistic and you may get it with perfect growing conditions, a following wind and wearing rose coloured glasses.

I've got 8 x 32' rows in, plus a few odds and ends in at home.  I will be saving some as seed for next year, but the remainder I'm sure will not be enough, even if I get them home!  We like  generous portion of peas with our meal.

The only thing I can advise it to grow as many peas as you can in whatever ground you can spare!

I don't think I could be completely self sufficient in peas as grow everything else, and we have a full size plot

I too grow Kelvedon Wonders peas. 3 x 15ft rows last year, same this year.  I just score a 6inch wide trench with the hoe and plant them in a zig zag pattern.  Usually about 120-150 plants per row.  Always had a decent crop. I've meshed them this year, until they get up to about 8 inches, as the birds had a good nibble on the young shoots last year.

Any tips/link on storing peas for the following season DD?

Thanks.

If you buy a packet from the shops, you'll probably get a few hundred seed and it may say some like "sufficient for a 20' row".
