Hello,

This is my first proper year with an allotment and am resisting planting everything too early.

I purchased a walk in greenhouse yesterday for £50 which I thought was quite reasonable and now I wish to move things from my windowsills to the unheated greenhouse.

Is it going to be too early to move my aubergines?  They are currently in 3" pots and need potting on.  So I was hoping to be able to move them straight into the greenhouse.  My eventual plan is to keep them in the greenhouse along with a load of tomatoes.

Is it still too cold to do this?  We rarely have the heating on in the house at the moment, but at night the temperature doesn't dip below 10c inside at the moment.

That's a bit cool for night temps for aubergines. What you could do, is if you have any bubble wrap, wrap it around the pots or flat (without damaging the leaves) at night. That should insure that they get a bit more cold protection. Then unwrap during the day. A bit of a faff but if you're short of space, it's an alternative. Like peppers, cukes and toms, aubergines are more tropical plants and don't do well in low temps.

As Trillium has said, they might not like it, especially if we get another cold spell. The plastic house will not afford the protection the one you live in does, and it is likely to be much colder at night then 10 deg.

They will then sulk and not grow for ages

I don't have a greenhouse would it be ok to grow aubergines on the windowsill of a conservatory? 

Obviously it gets warm in there but would it help if the pot was kept on a tray with water in it?
