Poorly Lady, please help
« on: April 19, 2012, 09:14 »
Hello everyone,

I'm becoming increasingly worried about one of my ladies. Although she is quite content in her usual behavior, I have noticed a change in her droppings. She keeps leaving really watery white droppings, and I've noticed she is drinking alot of water. She has stopped laying too, its been about a week since she laid anything. Quite out of the ordinary as she normally lays everyday without fail.

Someone please help I'm really worried for her well being, and I have no idea how to help her, she is like my best friend, I can't bare to think she is suffering she is like part of the family.

Thank you.

How old is she?
When was she last wormed and what with?
Do you have a local vet that will treat chickens?
Staffies are softer than you think.

She is under a year old, and was told that she would need worming in May. Could that be the problem that she is due for worming?

I live semi rural, in a village with lots of farms and livestock nearby so I'm sure the vets in the near area would know how to treat chickens.

I'm so worried for her, I feel awful that I have let her down.

I would be tempted to worm her and then that is one thing you can rule out. Order some Flubenvet online - this is the best wormer to use.

The fact that she is drinking quite a lot will be contributing to her watery droppings, is she still eating OK and appear perky and active?

She still seems her usual quirky self, she is eating still, when I went to feed her this morning she went straight for her layers pellets. However, I'm not sure if she is losing some weight, or that she looks a little skinnier than usual because the weather has been so wet and that has caused her feathers to stick to her body more.

She seems to be 'cawing' alot though. She always has been a more vocal bird  anyways, but I've noticed her being noisier than usual.

I'll order the flubenvet today and get her wormed to rule that out like you say.

I just want her to get better.

If she is being noisy and eating well, my instincts would tell me that she is probably feeling fine in herself.

Start worming her (and the rest of your flock) as soon as you can. Get the Flubenvet 1%.
