many of us use debris netting, but any netting that has holes of less than 7mm should work ok

I've been using the fine green debris netting the last couple of years to great effect.
Got it off E-bay I think. Comes in big rolls so may be better to split the cost with someone if possible. I've got loads in the shed - gave some to my neighbour last year - shame your not closer, you could have had some!

Following advice on this site I bought a roll of debris netting on ebay. I'm using it over my brassicas and in a double layer over my parsnips and carrots to deter the dreaded root fly.

Yes
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I my experience debris netting is excellent for caulis.

Not only does it keep the butterflies off, but provides some shade and helps to keep the moisture in.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

ive been priceing up the veggimesh by agrolan.i realized that there is also an ultra fine mesh aswell that will stop the flea beetle and white fly.just a word of caution before you buy to what youre wanting to stop getting at your brassicas. you can kill two birds with one stone if you make the right purchase. :)

I also find that using the debris netting acts a bit like a greenhouse as well. My netted crops usually produce a week or 3 earlier than some of my plot neighbours who don't use the debris netting. (They use the windbreak type netting with bigger holes, but are generally burrerfly proof)
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

Does using very fine netting not cut down the light available to the plants and effect their growth?

I am thinking about building a wooden frame about 6 or 7ft high (So i can get in and work easily!) around my brassica bed and covering the whole lot so don't want to make a mistake and get the wrong type of netting!

It seems to make very little difference.
If you've ever walked into one of those cheap green meshed greenhouse/polytunnels they sell in Wilkos etc you'll know what it's like  :)

i've got lots of old muslin I used as net curtains in the house. Is that any use for netting on the allotment? Seems a shame to waste it.

Yes you can use it, if it's cotton muslin it won't last as long as voile (synthetic) but I think I had 2 summers out of my old ones before they finally disintegrated  ::)
