I haven't tried this yet but am definitely going to this year. Apparently you cut a garlic bulb in half crossways and put into a litre of water. bring the water to the boil for 10 mins then remove from the heat and leave to completely cool. remove and discard the garlic bulb and pour liquid into a clean bottle with lid. you add two tablespoons of this liquid to a gallon of water in a watering can and use this to water your crops. apparently the slugs detest the smell and are really sensitive to it and so don't come near!
