Sorry if this is in the wrong section folks!

Can anybody give advice on composting biodegradable wood based cat litter? I've read some very confusing advice on the internet! Obviously I'd take the poo out first, but wondered if anything in cat's urine was harmful to our health? Any advice appreciated, Kev

they have bacteria which is not good if ingested in human.
I would avoid it

Make a seperate bin for it as it takes ages for the wood to rot down. By the time it has rotted  it will be ok to use IMO

I used to use the pelleted wood litter for my rabbits and we have composted it ok. Took quite a while though.

Even if the wood composted eventually in a separate composter, I would not compost cat litter.  As prakash said, the bacteria and nasties which can be found in cat poo are not good for humans, and I would not trust my ability to remove them all.

Rabbits are not carnivores and therefore their poo etc is safe to compost.

If anyone does want rabbit compost, try finding a rescue near you. I bet they'd be very willing to get it off their hands.

Human poo has traditionally been used on veggie plots - go back to the earlier parts of this century and you'll see references to night soil etc.

But cats poo contains organisms which are known to be harmful to human health.  Without scientific evidence proving that the organisms will have become neutralised after a particular period of time, I would not be willing to advise on an open forum that such stuff is safe to use.

eww no,wouldn't fancy it myself, cat litter could transmit campylobacter, toxoplasmosis ,tapeworms or roundworms even if the poo were removed

and what do you think could be in human poo?  ...........a lot of the same things unfortunately

Yup - there is nothing like the smell of it when just been spread........
