i gave my girls some raisins just now as a treat -- they loved them!

dora got so excited that she was walking round with a raisin in her beak, and making happy hen noises - meanwhile daisy kept quiet and scoffed all the ones on the ground and then nicked the one out of dora's beak!!!

you probably had to be there but it was so funny.

    Sounds like Dora will have to learn a few tricks! I gave ours a few this morning as the previous owners fed them the odd few - they went crackers too! They also nicked a piece of bread and butter from my 9month old, Lilian...she wasn't best pleased. At least they have good appetites!  :D

my daisy must REALLY like raisins because it's usually dora who's the one who scoffs most of their treats - dora's very good at elbowing (i guess hens do have elbows) daisy out of the way; it was nice to see daisy getting her own back for once!!!

My girls love grapes which are a bit expensive but "they're worth it!" I shall try raisins as they're cheaper but i think they'll spot the difference! I bet I'm the only person who always has grapes in the fridge but...just let any human dare eat them!!

Well on the subject of chicken treats, is it ok to give them wild bird seeds as a treat?

I've got some for feeding the garden birds and thought I might give the girls a treat but wanted your opinions first....

i was filling one of my wild bird feeders the other day and spilt some of the seeds and the hens LOVED them.

not sure if it's good for them or not but they are still scratching in the grass where the seeds fell in the hopes of finding a few that they missed.
