Home made liquid feed for tomatoes?
« on: March 20, 2012, 22:31 »
I'm looking for some ideas for home made liquid feeds for tomato plants.  I have started an experiment to see which home made feed will produce the best results

I don't have access to any comfrey, however I'm willing to try any suggestion people may have.

Cheers

Richard

I think comfrey or nettle tea are the most often home made feeds used for tomatoes.  It's very smelly though.

I do make nettle tea for the toms but I also, at planting out in beds or grow bags put a handfull of nettle tops in the bottom of the planting hole just before planting the tomato  plant in it.

I cannot believe you have no access to comfrey. Get yourself out into the country green lanes and there will be sufficient for you.   The walk will do you the world of good!  Cheers,     Tony.

I make a seaweed feed for my toms which is very effective but see the sticky on collecting seaweed before you go ahead.

I use either comfrey tea or manure tea.

Just soak some manure in a bin for a few weeks and the resultant smelly brown water is great.
