My neighbour on the plots has given me 4 canes to plant. Now as we are still clearing the remaining half of the plot, I can't put them in yet. I want to grow tham as his blackberries are huge, tasty and gorgeous

So now my question:

If I plant each in a tub at home, will that be OK until I can plant them out next year? If so, what's the best time to transplant them?

you say blackcurrant in subject line - and blackberry in post - so you had better edit - so we know which you are talking about

as a rule - you can just heel in most fruits - then transplant when ground is ready and suitable

so yes - just plant them somewhere out of the way - until you are ready for them

They are cuttings, he says to put them in leaving only 2 inches above the soil.

absolutly lynne .just stick your spade in the ground at an angle / then drop them in after you cut them back to a leaf joint ,then heel them in you can put hormone rooting powder and pot them up in the greenhouse for a higher chance of getting them to strike
