Germination
« on: March 06, 2012, 21:10 »
Last week I sowed some leeks, parsnips, chillis, peppers and celeriac. So far only leeks are showing is this normal?
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

You will have to wait a while for the rest. My celeriac and parsnips have been in 3 weeks now. nothing showing. Give it time, they will.

Parsnip, chilli and celeriac can all take their time to germinate - peppers are usually quite quick if they are warm enough, I sowed mine on the 28 Feb they were up on the 5th  :)

Where have you got them?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Parsnips won't like it. They only need a temperature of 7oC or so. If it's too warm, you'll get weak plants.

They are also not keen on being transplanted and have to be carefully handled if you do it that way - in a loo roll rube for example.

You were lucky then!

I thought your celeriac was in a plastic bag?

I think I tried Javelin a few years ago but stick to Gladiator these days (nothing wrong with Javelin, but I think they tend to be slimmer than Gladiator which in my poor soil is not good news!)

(I would need to find a very small human being to pose for a pic with mine to have any chance of beating DD's!)   :tongue2:
