i just thrust some 18 in cuttings into the ground for new plants they dont allways take but if yo plant a few your bound to get some , got 2 on the go at the moment , previous owner although he spent alot of time in the garden didnt sem to d much pruning , the roses had loads of thin stems and the apple tree was a bit congested with loads of branches all crossed over but hubbys tidied it all up and its budding away nicely .

If I had roses growing from my hips I would call the doctor.

For one of my Dad's Chr. er Xma er winter solstice presents , I got a packet of rose seeds from a company that will name the Rose for you.  I grew it for him and named it after my late Mother.

Nearly all the seeds germinated and we have several delightful little rose bushes that are covered in small little pink roses all summer long.  They would not win any prizes at Chelsea but it was fun growing them and seeing what they turned out like.

Thats a  lovely idea

A really miserly person would just grow there own seed and make their own labels and call the rose after who the pressie was for.

Must make a note of this somewhere so as not to forget

Seriously tho Lilac, that is a lovely idea and would make a lovely pressie, I bet your dad was really touched that you had done that for him and your mum :)

Thanks Spana,

You do get a certificate with the name you have given the rose, which Dad framed, and it names which roses were crossed to produce the seed.

Dad planted one on her grave and one in his garden, I have one in the raised bed in our patio area where Sebs little hamsters are buried and one at the bottom of the garden that I can see from the Greenhouse.
