Bought a small gooseberry bush today. £3.18 from Wilkos. It has some leaves out and looks really healthy. Do I plant it out now or will the forecast 'big freeze' kill it? I thought I should possibly pot it up and put it in the greenhouse for a couple of weeks before planting it. Can anyone advise me further?

Plant it out.

Putting it in the greenhouse could encourage premature shooting.

They're tough as old boots.

Physalis are actually perennials in their native climate. The bushes grow quite big.

If you live in the south and can protect them from frost, you may be able to grow them as perennials here. I might have a go sometime and put them in the greenhouse over winter.

Physalis = cape gooseberry aka as golden berry. Grows as a soft stemmed plant, usually as an annual

Ribes uva-crispa = gooseberry. Grows as perennial woody shrub

(Love that name: crispy egg  :lol: :lol: :lol: )
