in my opinion, they are too flimsy, even if held down. I have seen 2 turn into kites at our site. I personally wouldn't take the chance to be honest;
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

There are way too many sob stories on this forum to ever recommend them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My first ever greenhouse was one of these jobbies and yes, in a very sheltered position they will last a year, maybe two.

Firstly, they get very hot and condensation quickly builds up.  Secondly, opening the zip to get air in means the zip is the first thing to break.  Thirdly, although you can get replacement covers the cheap poles quickly rust.  Fourthly, a stray gust of wind means you might have to look for it in the next county.

If you are strapped for cash then they are ok for a year until you can buy something more substantial, and less aerodynamic. ;)

Are you after it to grow plants to maturity or just to bring on and harden off?

I have one that i wouldn't be without at home for just such reasons, i usually get 4 to 5 years out of one and at £10 each they are a bargain.
Just take the cover off and fold/store it indoors somwhere dark and it'll last for a while.

You could maybe look for a plastic covered min-tunnel. I have one 3m by 2m and because the cover is trenched in all around it is fine.

It is slightly sheltered by next door's shed, but the prevailing wind comes from the other direction.

Cover last about 2 seasons before it needs replacing.

I paid £32 for it on ebay, and covers are aroubnd £35

Depends on whether you have funds to get a glass house if there are no freebies around

Hope you can find a cheapish one

Sometimes DIY stores sell off demo models at the end of the summer, flat packed on a trolley . Got one like this for school for £50

I had one of them and it just made me realise that I needed a 'real' greenhouse!

Mine was tied down and all that happened was that the plastic ripped at the points where the ropes were attached, wind got in, holes appeared, more duct tape was applied and we ended up fighting with it in the dark one night as it nearly took off and the next day I ordered a new greenhouse  :D

I got my moneys worth out of it really as mine only cost 20 quid and gave me chance to catch the gardening bug  :)

I got a large one last year, still in it's box. Only bought it because it was reduced from £65 to £10. May come in handy one day.

To be fair, I did grow some decent stuff in mine for the two seasons it lasted.  But on a windswept plot I would just constantly worry about it.  Also not good if you can't get to the plot to open and close it every day.

I bought a 6' by 4' one last year for the princely sum of £7, I bought it to try and over winter some plants so I could avoid having to bring them into the house.
I am happy wth it so far, lets just see how long it lasts though after reading comments here!
