And I thought my swedes were awful

This is the second half of my turnip crop  ::)  I seem to have invented the micro turnip.  They were my worst performing crop, bar the swede which we really don't talk about  ;)

At least they look edible  ;)

Funnily enough my total swede harvest looked a lot like that.

Have you seen the size of them in the shops this year? they're tiny so don't beat yourself up about it - yours look way bigger!

Most Turnips are only meant to be about the size of a tennis ball, so yours look okay to me.
Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

I think the picture makes them look better than they are

That's a small kitchen knife next to them.  The biggest was about pingpong ball sized, but they tasted OK  :D

The swede I hoiked out today weighs about one and a half pounds, and the biggest went a few weeks ago and took ages to get through! (dog likes it though)!

But hang on everyone, you didn't see the really  tiny cabbages tonight, or the shallots which were pathetic so we're re-planting them this year, and the leeks all falling over and waiting to be souped, and the beetroot which has had to be pickled as I over-estimated what we could get through in a year...

Such is life, and thank goodness for that!

I hate to sound bitter but....

At least yours germianted!!! Mine came to nothing this year, and i dug over the horrible stupid rows i had sown 4 weeks after sowing having given up all hope of them coming - i used the ground for a cucumber plant - which then DIED!!!!

Not putting anything there next year - i bet the weeds grow just as well as usual.  ::)
