this morning i went to the local horticultural sciety to buy compost and to stock-uo on seed trays/modules. then i went to morrisons and bought to champagne rhubarb crowns (£1 each), and this afternoon i dug over a 2m square in my neighbours garden that hadn't been touched for aroung 30 years so it was full of brambles.

Finished digging the third of my four beds, made a start on the final one. Did some wood work to finish building the asparagus bed. Planted up a large tub with lily bulbs to live outside of the poly tunnel. Cleared some sad looking lettuce from the poly tunnel before it started rotting.

Haven't been down to the plot for nearly a monht, so went to check all was well.

Everything was OK and I had some compliments from two other plot holders about how productive the plot is for this time in the year  :D

Also got to the plot today for the first time in a few weeks. Even managed to persuade the Mrs and our 2 children to come.

We all enjoyed it - got the rest of the plot dug over, cut back some of the hedges, there is an apple tree in the hedge that was overun with brambles so looking forward to it this year (no idea how to care for an apple tree???!)

Put some coffee over the 3 new blueberry bushes (Can get unlimited supplies from work)

Had a chat or three with fellow plot holders.

Came home and had some beers!!

Dug up an apple tree root on the other half plot we not have plus removed some more grass from the overgrown bit, think a couple of weeks and it will be clear just need to get it dug over now. lol
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

I took the bag of kitchen peelings up for the compost and cut a swede, a savoy cabbage and a few brussels.

Too cold and wet to do much else, and nobody about for a natter - so came home for a cuppa  ;)

popped to the plot on Sunday, not been down for weeks but it looks ok, dug some horse manure in that we put down before Christmas, added chicken poop and kitchen peelings/toilet rolls etc to the compost and brought home some leeks, psb and sprouts  :)

Pulled up my PSB plants as the pigeons have taken all the growing tips out.

Then rotavaterd 2 of the main beds as well as another 2 smaller beds for Eve to grow stuff in.

Cleared even more rocks and stones from the plot.

My early sown tomato and pepper/chillie plants are all up most with thir second set of leaves, so ready for potting on this week.

I read somewhere that a person should always try to do 4 different things each visit to the plot so I am trying that now...

So ...
1.Yesterday I added my home waste to the compost heap along with a few bags of horse manure then gave it a bit of water and a half turning over.. oh and also added some BFB to activate it a bit..

2. Emptied the IBC so I could move it to cover all round with a couple of old builders bags to keep the direct sun away so the water doesn't go green

3. Started to dig up a heap of extra soil left by the previous tenant and moved 13 barrow loads to a lower depression part of the plot..

4. Sifted through all my ash piles from all my bonfires with a large magnet to remove all the screws and nails from all the pallets I have destroyed and the chicken coops that were left there.. Now I need to scrape some up to add some potash to my onion patch!!
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..
