It rather depends on the recipe since chutnies vary.  Do you have a recipe?

what chutney is it . maybe you can thicken it with one of the ingrediants // i make pera chutney  ( this weekend ) and if its runny i just add sugar n more pears . sometime the fruit is so juicy it throws the cooking process

Probably a bit late now, with chutney simmer until when you pull a wooden spoon through the bubbling mix and the trail only just very slowly fills with liquid. When it cools it will be nice and thick. Sometimes you might have to simmer for 2 hours or more, depends on the amount of liquid you start off with.

What ever happens it will be delicious coz you made it.

Good luck.

My mother never bothers with anything to seal chutney - nothing survives in it. Do your jars have lids (aka coffee jars), if so this will be good enough for a pickle, but not jam.

If you want to be doubly sure, cut out a bit of a stout freezer bag to seal it. Cling film becomes manky after you've tried to put it back on twice.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
