Think they are referring to the similarity in growth with the chokes.

I like to try new things too so I'll give them a go - also seemed like a good excuse to buy some more seeds too

Think they are referring to the similarity in growth with the chokes.

Only in so far as you can keep your own tubers year to year --- they don't have any similarities in growth habit to Jerusalem artichokes otherwise  :)

Realy fancy some of these.  How well do they store or do you eat them as you pick (dig) them.

They are very, very, very good. We roasted them in the embers on bonny night for the neighbours they fell in love with them.
My favourite is roasting in the oven, olly oil, garlic and rosemary, served with salmon.

The slimy texture of the stuff I grew put me off

I think you may be confusing it with Okra, Alan.

Alan: Apologies, my reference to "slimy" referred to Okra. I've never ever tasted Oca

Keep up Aunty  ;)  :D

They store incredibly well.

I just keep them in a carborad box lined with kitchen paper, in the garage and they lasted absolutely unscathed from last Autumn until March  :D

Dug up the first lot this week (sorry, forgot to take a photo and now we have eaten them)

but thought I'd let you know that most tubers were about about 5-6 cm long and very very crisp and succulent

If you are growing these, it is worth getting them off to a good start by potting them up individually around mid March so they get some leafage before hardening them off to plant out around beginning of May.

They do sometimes take some time to get going

I'm getting tempted ...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just ordered some. I might try a couple in the tunnel just in case we get an early frost next Autumn
