« on: October 27, 2011, 20:35 »
I have had my chickens for 6 weeks now and every night they have took themselves off to the coop until the last 2 weeks when my light sussex has insisted when it gets dark to roost on my windowsill.I now have to carry her to bed every night has anybody got any tips to make it go to bed on her own.Cheers.

If you keep carrying her to bed every night, she will love it and will let you do it. Its the same with my husband's Orpington pullets who wait in the run for me to lift them up to their sleeping quarters every night and wait for me to lift them down to the run every morning.

Nevertheless, it shows one thing: your hen is fond of you and wants you to put her to bed.

I would check for red mite though..

I had a wooden coop and my hens started trying to rooste in unusual places.  When i started checking properly i found red mite.  Now i have got my Eglu they all go to bed happy as larry every night.
