Hello Lovely People. My amaryllis bulb has arrived and right next to the roots is a bulbil (I think that's what you call it!), do I take it off carefully before planting or leave it on? I wondered if it might rot and possibly affect the roots if it stayed on. Thanks as always, Jude.

I leave mine on for the first year so it has a good food source, then gently peel it off in the 2nd year to fend for itself.

you're welcome. I should have added that the baby bulbil will just put out a leave this year. When you do take off the young bulb, be sure that some of the basal plate comes off with it, which is where the roots will grow from.
