Further update. Mildred was put to sleep this evening. She went downhill rapidly and I thought it was the best thing for her.

Ahhhh, so sorry Better that than have her suffer though. Old age in chickens is a sorrowful thing to watch, but at least you know she wasnt in pain xxxx Sending virtual hugs x

Yes sorry to hear she didn't pull though but she had a reasonable innings and it was probably the best thing than have her linger on in poor health.

Oh I'm so sorry. I had the first of mine, called Ruby put to sleep this week too. She was only 19 months and so happy and healthy. She got peritonitis and went downhill in a matter of hours it was awful seeing her suffer but I think, hope, we prevented the worst of it for her. I expect you have done the same for Mildred. I know how you feel about having to go through it again. I cried lots at the vets and had a bit of a sad day the day after, but now I feel  a bit better and more philosophical. I hope you are able to take the time to grieve and can move on and give a happy home and good life to many chickens and pets in the future.xx
