Older runners.
« on: September 18, 2011, 15:40 »
I've not been impressed with the white lady and most have been let go beyond the point of being edible but not large enough to save the beans.

I really can't be bothered to sort out the possibly ok ones I've ruined enough dinners with plastic beans, is there anything they can be used for ? Seems a shame to put a 75ltr tub trug of them on the compost heap.

I've used slightly older tougher green beans by blanching them, then cooking through slowly in a tomato sauce spiced up with chilli.  It was very nice with rice and would work with pasta as well. The beans soften and soak the sauce up and can't see why it wouldn't work with runners :)

I boiled some the other day for over an hour and they were still like little bit of green plastic.  :tongue2: There are no strings in them, but the bean pod flesh is hard.

I was thinking of trying to puree them into a paste ?

You would have to cook them until tender to get a decent puree or you would get paste with grainy plastic bits.

If they are that tough I would give up and compost them  ;)
