ooopps i think i messed up
« on: September 25, 2007, 18:05 »
I might have made a silly mistake.
I seem to have managed to get 3 full runner beans pods into my seed  storage tin,the only problem is they were not dried out 1st.
i must have put them in there by mistake last mth when putting away some other seeds.

they have caused mould to grow on other seeds that were stored in there.

question is are my seeds any good now.inc the open packets of bought seeds..
Sanity is just a playground for the un-imaginative

Only once the last tree has died, the last river poisoned and the last fish eaten will we realise that you cant eat money

What were the other seeds? I would suspect if they were small ones, the above solution may not be practical and it's back to the nursery!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi DD
the others were carrots,summer cabbage,b sprouts, m maker toms,pumpkin (jack o )
the cabbage and sprouts look ok but the others all have mould.
the smaller seeds that have it are all sticking together in clumps.

Seeds are cheap, wasting a month of the growing season while you work out your seeds aren't going to germinate is a waste of anyone's time.

So try a germination test on your seeds after you've dried them out and near the time you'd be doing a seed order anyway. Put a tiny scatter of each one on a (marked) piece of damp kitchen towel. Put all your squares of kitchen towel on a tray lined with some more kitchen towel, then cover with a clear bit of polythene with a couple of holes punched it it. Keep in a corner of the house where it's warm but not too warm and inspect and redampen daily. If a batch of seeds germinates, then you know it's viable. If not chuck the seeds and buy fresh.

Edit: Just read the bit about mould...chuck them. Don't waste your time on them.
