Black flies on my bean plants.......
« on: September 22, 2007, 23:25 »
I've noticed these in clumps recently. The plants are still going strong, and the beans are okay, and they keep coming but what can I do if anything to get rid of the flies?

Organic remedies please! I thought they were aphids but the ladybird I tried feeding them to flew away  :?

Jac

Trying organic gardening. Hoping to stick to it.

Don't know what made me think it was you jacnal, I've found out who it was. That person has not been seen on the forum since just after I sent them.

I think they were runner bean seed.

Hi Jacnal - I squirted mine with soapy water, then next day I cleaned them off with a rag, but only because they looked untidy.

I made a very weak soapy solution and sprayed yesterday, but to get them off, I found myself squashing them as I rinsed anyway. I felt I had to rinse the soapiness off

They look just horrible, had to remove them. I'll go back, work on what's left of them today.

    Now that really bugs me ... you send something free of charge ... even the postage ... and often don't even get a "Thanks it arrived".   Happily it hasn't happened to me on this forum; I think everyone has been great.
