I have always used dust free wood shavings for nest boxes.  Fellow hen keepers tell me straw is more suitable..  Comment much appreciated.

does it work for you ..........? are ya chucks happy . i only use straw but thats me . id use straw if i was having abird hatch eggs off tho matey :wink:

I think one of the main reasons people are put off straw is that, many consider it to be less easy to clean than shavings. Try it and see how you get on. If switching It would not hurt to be just a little more vigilant when cleaning the coop. IMHO of course!

 and its a case of being lasy if ya wanna  then matey lolo :wink:  birds nest on grass  straw etc in the wild ,i have heard rubbish spouted that having chicks on straw etc causes splay leg in chicks ...... compost it

Yep, the lazy chicken keeper may not be as happy with straw as they are with shavings.
