Just wondering...I have heavy breeds and I thought they would lay everyday.I have 16 hens and I only get 6 to 10 eggs a day.Is that normal? Thanks!

Pure breeds lay less eggs than hybrids, which are bred for laying.  What breeds do you have  :?:

You have quite a variety of breeds there Princess' .

Arauanas are a very old breed laying blue/green eggs but only during the spring and summer months.

Australorps are also a fairly old breed 80 years or so but were produced for egg production.

Brahmas are again a very old breed which make good broodies they do, however, lay a low number of small eggs.

Orpingtons go broody easily and lay small eggs.

RIRs are also an oldish breed 1890s but should be good layers.

So the Australorps and the RIRs should lay quite well, the Orpintons are a bit ify and the Araucanas and Brahmas are poor layers.  Does that fit in with what is being produced ?

I went to New York once and I didn't see any hens
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
