Blanching in a steamer
« on: August 10, 2011, 08:57 »
As i haven't got a blanching basket i was going to try blanching in my three tier steamer instead. After some google searches it seems that the 'three tier steamer method' is not really what they are saying, i think?!? Does anyone else use a steamer and does the food need longer (another thing they pointed out too)

I don't use the steamer attachment as I'd like to make sure that every surface of the veg is blanched - you risk things sticking together in a steamer.

I have a metal sieve which I put the veggies in and then dunk in the boiling water in the pan for as long as necessary.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I just plonk stuff into boiling water and strain through the colander when time is up.

Who needs a blanching basket  :nowink:

Doesn't help if you still fancy using the steamer though, sorry

I'm with Mos, I just put it into the boiling water and leave for whatever time my M &S freezer cook book recommends (never let me down yet and I've had it for about 30 years).
