Introducing new ducks to existing flock
« on: August 08, 2011, 22:57 »
I am about to buy 3 POL campbells to add to an existing flock of 6 ducks about 4 year olds -- 1 campbell male, a campbell female and 4 aylesburys.
Do I need to separate or do anything to prevent bullying or for hygiene reasons please. They have a large run, pond etc but are put into a hut at night.
Many thanks

It is certainly advisable to keep them separated for the first 2 to 3 weeks to ensure that nothing harmful is introduced to your existing birds.

I have never introduced more ducks to my existing ones but read that it isn't usually a problem - they are not like chooks. It would probably ease things to put extra feeding and water stations out to start with but it shouldn't be necessary. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
