Chicken eating its own egg...

It is quite normal for hens to eat any soft-shelled eggs they lay, to keep the next box clean and to not tempt any predators close.

However pecking perfectly good eggs is a very difficult habit to break, and it can be a habit passed on to other hens.

While some people advocate leaving pot eggs in the nest box (so that the hen can't break them) or using blown eggs filled with noxious tasting substances (tabasco, English mustard etc), others advocate culling the egg eaters.
