my first year having an allotment and all going well so far (fingers crossed) .

my potatoes are lovely, and the ones im digging now have huge baking sized ones in amongst small and medium ones, if i left them in the ground would they keep getting bigger , also if they are bigger can i store them like main crop potatoes in sacks?

as my allotment was waist high weeds last year i thought putting potatoes in half of it a good idea, but if i cant store them, or leave them in, i shall have to give away .

i did plant a load of main crop ones too, but luckily there not ready yet.

any advice appreciated, thanks :)

They will get bigger if the foliage hasn't died down.

They'll store, but not as well as maincrop, so use thme first.

Don't leave them in too long - slugs will have 'em!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

The worst offenders live underground!

Have a look at this, go down to "Black Keeled Slugs" & sleep well!

For every one slug you see on the surface, there are about 500 underground in various sizes and colours!         Cheers,    Tony.

goodness i never knew about underground slugs, lol, that damage was horrendous, although i must say ive never seen a slug on my allotment, could this be because it is just my plot in the middle of an overgrown field, and they cant move about in it. ( or are they all undergroung

Nothing to do with where your plot is...

.... most live underground

Having said all that, I remember digging up a 'Kestrel' spud plant last September that I'd overlooked at harvest time earlier in the year. They were perfect - not a mark on them and they tasted lovely.

By contract, my main crop Picasso were riddled with wireworm holes.

I've grown more Kestrel this year and won't fret about lifting them until I need them.
