My 10p bargain
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:32 »
I bought a Gloxinia bulb last year when we were selling off the last few summer bulbs at work for 10p each.  It had started sprouting in the bag but seemed OK otherwise.

Last year it made loads of leaves and the tuber was much bigger and fatter when I took it back out of the compost and the end of the year.

Look at it this year............I'm thrilled  :D  Got me 10p worth I think  :D

Thank you for your comments  :)  I've always been a bit black thumbed when it comes to houseplants, but I'm trying to improve my skills.

The summer flowering bulbs arrive in garden centres Dec/Jan - they usually go out January.  They start being reduced around April/May but they may be a few still lurking around in some centres.  I think full price the Gloxinia was only £2.50ish, so not much to lay out for such a show  :)  May treat myself to a white one next Jan  ;)
