Barbu d'Uccle bantams
« on: June 25, 2011, 20:13 »
I hatched some Millefleur Barbu d'Uccle eggs from two different sources earlier this year.  However, they have turned out not all to be millefleurs and i wonder if anyone can help me with their colours.

I have one which is a creamy sort of colour - is this porcelaine?
I have three which are reddish brown with a few balck flecks.
I have three which are a lemon colour intermixed with black.

Anyone know what these colours are?

Hopefully Big Jen comes on as she shows Barbu d' Anvers (she gave me a trio of the millefleur ones) and she may be able to help you. However here is a link to the British Belgian Bantam club which shows the many colour ways:-

http://www.jatman.co.uk/belgians/#birds

The lemon could be citrus or lemon millefleur, the creamy sort could be lavender (self coloured) or porcelain and the reddish with black more than likely will be millefleur - the full colours will come out as they get their adult feathers. A millefleur feather should be 3 colours  :).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.  I suspect I have a porcelaine (definitely not lavender) and some citrus or lemon millefleurs.  What is the difference?   Am not entirely convinced that the brown / blackones will miraculously mature into millefleurs as I have others of the same hatch who have the full (and beautiful) millefleur colouring,  Here's hoping though.
I will put pictures up for full guidance when and if I can get my phone camera working again.

the lemon and citrus do seem to be the same colour just some people call them different names (and you do get slightly different shades).
How old are they?

lemon / citrus are about 5 weeks and the brown / black are 8- weeks, as are the obviously millefleur and the porcelain.

Am overstocked at the moment (easy to get hatching-happy at this time of year) so I might be looking for homes for them.

I know the feeling - so far this year I have got 9 araucana chicks, 22 sabelpoot chicks and 10 possible araucana crosses - some of which are crossed with guinea fowl I think.

Remember though we do not allow buying or selling on here - if you wish to sell any of your birds we do have the classified ads at the top of the page which are free to members.
If you want to rehome free or swap we do have the poultry swap shop.
