Little chicks in big house
« on: June 15, 2011, 20:58 »
When I went to shut up my hens tonight I found two rather confused looking chicks standing outside the main coop.  Mother had gone in and jumped up on one of the perches for the night instead of going back into the broody coop.

The chicks decided to brave the main coop with much indignant cheeping.  They tried to get up on the perch but couldn't quite make it so mother jumped down and went into one of the nesting boxes with the chicks.  Then one of the other bantams jumped down and burrowed under mother as well!

I looked in the nesting box and it was looking rather crowded so I placed the "aunty" bantam back on the perch.  We are left with two broodies in one nesting box, mother and chicks in another nesting box and three bantams on the perches.

These complicated sleeping arrangements... ::)
11 bantams (and counting!) 2 dogs 1 cat
