Killing a forsythia

There was a large one on the edge of my plot. Now I have a large root. I have put root killer on it down some drilled holes and covered the root with plastic (to protect anything else).

Has anyone any experience of doing this. I expect from tending one in my front garden it will take some killing.

Even if its dead you'll still have roots there until it decomposes. Personally I'd grab a mattock and dig it out - chemicals just take too long.

It really is if you try hard enough and for long enough

I cut the top of at soil level in spring. Everysingle shoot that grew I pulled off, during the summer.
By next spring it made one last attempt at growing, but I just kept pulling the growth off.
It gave up then

digging it out is not a possibility - right next to a fence.

I am going to go with mumofstig and just keep chopping off all new growth and trying to poison the old one. It was quite a size.
