Orpington Chick Pics part Two
« on: June 06, 2011, 19:08 »
These are the other three.

Grey one we are not sure about, but has been named Flo
Blue one again we are not sure, but if it is a cockerel it will be called Merlin not got a name of its a girl yet.
Little black one is called Ebony (eb for short) again no idea but think its a girl.

Again your thoughts welcomed, but not all cockerels please  :tongue2:

PS if any are cockerels, I will be rehoming, (not to eat though ;)) so if you want to get a request in now is the time to say :).

Cant see the combs on the first and last but the middle one looks like maybe a girl.

I tried Feather sexing mine when they were a day old and guessed by what i had read, that i had 3 of each (sadly one didnt make it). They are now nearly 8 weeks old and am possitive i have 3 hens and 2 cockerels due to how they featherd, girls feather more evenly and quicker than boys, (something i didnt look at on your chicks) and the combs come on quicker and redder in the boys.

Well, fingers crossed i have 3 hens and only 2 cockerels  ;)

Its a good game isn't it. Someone else said to look at the toes, if the 1st and 3rd toe are the same length then its a girl if they are different lengths its a boy.

So who knows; one has a very red comb and one slightly red whilst the other 4 are definitely pale combed.

As for feathers, the one with the bright red comb has feathered really quickly, so that's not quiet fitting if it is a he.

I guess patients is the order of the day and we'll just have to wait.
