Oh and while i'm here, none of my sunflowers have done anything since i sowed them at least 6 weeks ago, so I have time to start more?

You can just get some marigolds going now if they're the smaller single types, not the big doubles.

As for sunflowers, it's a bit late really but you've nothing to lose by trying.

You get the best ones from seed as well Goth, the ones in the garden centre I have seen are very run of the mill.  Try Suttons Jolly Japes or a mixed Durango (don't think Suttons do these) seed breed type wotever its called.  They are French Marigolds.  My packet says sow up to end of May, so you got nothing to loose really just the cost of a packet of seed, obviously it may flower a bit later maybe August.

Sutton do a range of fast seed as well and after googling I came across this page http://www.suttons.co.uk/Gardening/Flowers/Fastflowers/Marigold+French+Summer+Loving+Mix+Seeds_143712.htm?sku=143712 Weather these are faster than any other or not I doubt though, but that is what it leads you to believe.

And this same

Just seen this as well.
http://www.gardeningdirect.co.uk/Marigold-French-Mix/20-25-1077,default,pd.html

free P&P.  Large plugs 24 for 5.99 in a sale at gardening direct.

P&P shows up but they say they take it off.  See this page about P&P
http://www.gardeningdirect.co.uk/UP-TO-56-PERCENT-OFF-THESE-LARGE-PLUGS/OVER50OFFLARGEPLUGS,default,sc.html

Which having just ordered some geraniums is true they take it off at payment.  Even if they are late coming (although it gives no indication they will be late) I thought at that price I can take cuttings and nurture indoors.  Especially as geraniums are so easy to make plants from cuttings.  Just got to hide them from the old man somehow LOL
