At last! Pity it's on a Saturday though. I think I'll just go up the allotment anyway.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Hi Noshed, when you have had your fill please can you send the rain clouds west into Hampshire?

I'll do my best - it tipped down all last night but it had only gone down about 4" when I was digging today (sunday). So we need loads more.
Shows how rain is so much better than watering. Even a whole can only does about 1/2".

Totally unproductive day on the plot, because it was raining - hard and steady.   Please tell me I was not dreaming.   I don't remember the last time I was unable to go to the plot because it was raining!  I live in Surrey and we are supposed to be in the grip of a drought that is worse than 1976  - No where near as dry as I remember time then!
Enjoying the traditional ways and values of life.

It rained here in sunny Lincs most of yesterday, and this morning, but was warm and sunny this afternoon.  My water butts are overflowing, so OH went out and transferred some of the water into the big white one, which is the one I use for the poly.

No rain on Saturday (thank goodness) about four drops on Sunday, but overcast all day.
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

We've had 8.7mm this month so far. The four months, Apr-Jul, saw 130.1mm rainfall. In old money, that's 5.5 inches in four and a half months. :|

thanks for rubbing it in guys - the amount of rain we had yesterday didn't even wet a patio slab let alone start refilling water butts...

Having got my incredibly expensive rain gauge - 50p no less - I just want to have enough to be worth measuring! An inch of rain is about 4.6 gallons per square yard - not a lot really is it?

(Hermon said:  overflowing water butt so frustrating to see all that water just go down the drain!!)

OH has 2 black dustbins he used to use for his chicken feed, when my water butts overflow, first he goes out and transfers the water into the dustbins, then last night he went out and transferred some of it to my 250 gallon white tank out the back of the polytunnel.  So he does have some uses!!!! lol

More rain last night - everything looks so much better. But my sweetcorn crop has really suffered from the drought - small cobs with balnk bits on. But they do taste lovely.
Next year - more organic matter in the soil.

I finally visited my plot yesterday and my pumpkins are getting happily huge now! They really like this rain. My pink fur apple potatoes are looking much healthier with greener leaves and a few more green leaves sprouting up.... and best of all the green manure has finally started sprouting!!! I planted a few more seeds while I was out there since seeds seem to be growing well in this drizzly rain.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.
