the brassicas you mention munty: would you sow the seeds straight in the ground this time of year or bring them up to small plants in the greenhouse or a propagator then plant out? :D

I'm not huge fan of broad beans myself, memories of school dinners with broad beans in parsley sauce sitting congealing next to the cold ham spring too easily to mind!  But I saw an ad on tv for m&s food and it showed broad beans in a condition I had never seen them before- green!  and small and looking very tempting, so next year I am going to plant a few just to try them out while they are still very young and if they still bring up school memories then my ground will just have to go weedy over winter too!!

Munty, I was thinking of trying to get some broccoli and spinach going by starting them off in a propagator in the greenhouse.

What sort of size should I let them get to before planting out? Surely at this time of year it's a balance between how ribust the plants are and how cold/damp the soil is?

Not to mention snails and slugs.

What's your opinion?
Veg? That's chips, innit?

You've wasted 25 minutes already!  Get 'em in the soil pronto.  Don't let them get anyways soft growth.
