hi people, ive just aqquired 3 ex-battery hens 72wks old, to add to my current flock, at first all was well they settled in great with a continual supply of eggs from them for the 1st 3 days, now however thay seem to have dried up and the birds themselves seem a little slow and quiet? was wondering if this could be down to firstly: worms, moult, due to them having feathers missing?? they are on mixed corn and layers pellets during the day and are let out to range about 4 o clock, in which they perk up a little for about 5 mins then they sit still with there eyes closed, and move very sluggish! also one of the birds has the runs. would appreciate any kind of help or advice.thankyou. jim.

I'm not that experienced but the first eggs they laid were probably already in their system when you aquired them. It is most likely the shock to their system that is causing this behaviour, everything has changed for them, their food, space etc. Just keep an eye on them and decide is it illness or just shock. if they seem to be healthy and eating drinking ok ,its prob just down to the move and will lay again once they have settled in give them a few weeks ,mine was the same
