Beautiful marigolds
« on: May 27, 2011, 00:56 »
I have grown some Suttons Marigold (French) Jolly Japes from seed this year and they are gorgeous.  Lovely, big for french Marigolds, blooms and very vibrant.  I don't care if Marigolds are fashionable or not these are lovely.  I'll do a pic when they are all in bloom.

Snap!

Good choice I think.  ;)

Marigolds have always been a staple bedding plant for my father's garden so I've kept it going for him. "We" have several trays of French Marigolds and I planted out the first of them yesterday.

I've grown pale yellow ones for lining the greenhouse paths this year for a change from the orangey ones, and the buds are just beginning to show some colour  :)
besides looking pretty they do quite a good job of keeping whitefly out ;)

My english marigolds haven't done well being started off in the modules indoors; do you think it's too late to start them off direct outside?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

That's posh!  ;)

I grow the cheapo ones from Kings Seeds and one packet has given me many full size trays full some already in flower.

Gotta love them haven't ya.  Hate the smell but love the look.

Vanilla marigolds are the African ones though aren't they? Or as it says French in Brackets do they do a French marigold version?

I put mine out quite early on about three weeks ago so they are doing well now, with quite a few blooms.  Think I will put them out when they are a bit bigger next time though as slugs seem to like them when small.  Took a risk and it paid off.

Are English Marigolds the same as Pot marigold or Calendula.  I planted some of these two weeks ago and they are about an inch tall now.  They do quite well sowing in situ, so I haven't tried them in modules.  Some I sowed in situ four weeks ago and were slow to start but are now ...........well more big than tall, the leaves are about 5 inches long.

My california poppies sown last year are just about to burst into flower, can't wait for them.

Those Kings seeds look good Learner especially the swan river daisy seeds (Brachycome) 400 for £1.25.  I'll have to make a note of their site.

Many of mine went in yesterday along with a shaking of slug bait.  ;)

They take too long to raise to feed slugs on.  >:(
