Hullo all and greetings from Belgium again.
My wife has taken over part of my site. In fact she's a better gardener than me, just a bit out practice. For starters, she used one packet of carrots for two rows. The seedlings are now growing chocker-block. What is the best way of thinning them out without attracting too many carrot flies and causing minimum damage?

If you like eating very baby carrots, in salads for instance, you can thin them by picking some out to use and continue to do this, picking increasingly bigger carrots and hopefully in the end leaving space for some to grow big.

I'm told that thinning them whilst it's raining helps keep the carrot smell down, that's what attracts the flies.

Thin in the evening when the carrot fly is not active, water afterwards.
