Chilli Help
« on: May 12, 2011, 18:17 »
Hi everyone, i guess its been a good year since i posted here<was a first time grower> and i tried growing the hottest chilli in the world. Anyway, i planted it in may on my birthday as thats when i got the seeds (may 24th).

After a while it looked like this (quite healthy)

well after all this time i think its well and truely dead. I cant seem to stop it going brown. I put it in a much bigger pot to help it out and that didnt help.

Had i might as well chuck it in the bin? i really dont want to but hey ho, maybe i could try again (though i guess its too late this year now)

please - i am a inexperienced Gardner looking for help!

So the healthy plant was grown last year, then overwintered somewhere, started growing again OK (?) and is now outside your house (and looking pretty dead, I'm afraid!)

Have I pieced it together correctly (might be being a bit dim here!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Ah! Poor plant :( Did you get any chillis from it and were they really hot?? :tongue2: :tongue2:

It's probably not too late to plant some more seeds and have another go this year.  Chillis are not usually frost hardy and will die in cold weather.  It's not like we had any of that last Winter!
Good luck trying again.

scrape some of the bark of towards the bottom,
if there is green - it lives  :D
If there is brown - it's dead  :(

Sadly, I don't think it's just pining for the fjords, I think it's an ex chili. :(

Doesn't look good to me; bring it indoors and cross everything (even where you are it's a tough call for chillies outdoors at this time of year - you can always start again although you will be lucky to get any chillies off them this year!)

Next year is always going to be better!  :)

they hate draughts and overwatering, temps below 10 don't help either.

unless the greenhouse is heated it will be too cold in there.

I autumn cut it right back and leave it on the sunniest window sill you have during the day, bring it inside the curtains at night though.

give it a little drop of water occasionally and most importantly keep your fingers crossed.
As the days start to lengthen, start watering a little bit more and hopefully it will start to grow again

I've managed it only once :( but it's great when it works...no great loss if it doesn't!
