I have just bought some oyster shell/grit for my hens, not sure how it works, I thought it would be small peices but it seems quite big (size of penny coins), is that right? it was sold for the purpose i have bought it.

It sounds larger than the stuff I give them, was it sold for poultry ?  Why don't you just offer them some and see if they take it.  You can always bash it up a bit with a hammer

Sorry but after a closer look the oyster shell is quite small and it was sold for chickens.  Thanks for all of your advice aunt :)

Does the oyster shell go in with their food or just in a dish on its own?

I just put it in a dish on its own,  I use a coop cup... you know the type that you can hang onto the wire mesh of the run  :D
