oyster shell

I have just bought some oyster shell/grit for my hens, not sure how it works, I thought it would be small peices but it seems quite big (size of penny coins), is that right? it was sold for the purpose i have bought it.

It sounds larger than the stuff I give them, was it sold for poultry ? Why don't you just offer them some and see if they take it. You can always bash it up a bit with a hammer

Sorry but after a closer look the oyster shell is quite small and it was sold for chickens. Thanks for all of your advice aunt

Does the oyster shell go in with their food or just in a dish on its own?

I just put it in a dish on its own, I use a coop cup... you know the type that you can hang onto the wire mesh of the run

I put a handful or two in with their food. it seems to work okay that way for my girls!
