I saw month don Do this on gardeners world but thought it was a little odd given how long it takes a good lettuce heart to grow. Try radishes instead.

I think Monty was trying to grow rocket and last Fridays episode he said the rain had washed the seeds away so it did not work anyway.

Rocket can be a bit touchy to germinate here, but it's always a good idea to try a catch crop of lettuce or rocket or baby spinach, which is exactly what it says - you pays yer money, you takes yer chance!

After all, its only a few seeds and a bit of TLC isn't it!

I'd go for it!

I put mixed lettuce inbetween my 'tatoes last year, both on top and in the trenches, with good gaps inbetween. They'd been started of in a tray so were a reasonable size when they went out. Picked leaves hither and thither off the top. When it came to earthing up took soil from between the lettuces. Had fantastic lettuces that went on for ages and looked really pretty (or attractive if you prefer  :D) in contrast to the dark tato leaves. Good tato crop too  :)

Wouldn't try seeds as too iffy where I am.

When I arrived, there were so many docks, I thought it was Southampton.
