hen with leg problem
« on: April 07, 2011, 15:12 »
Hi can anyone give me some advise about my hen, for the last couple of days i have noticed that she has larger  legs than normal and she seems to be standing with her legs wide apart and walking with a waddle, she is about 3 years old, and hasnt laid eggs for about 3 months, she is eating, but isnt really acting herself, can anyone tell me if they know what this could be thanks TC

I am sorry I cant help as I have not seen this myself. But wondered if her vent area is clean??? Also one of my girls had a tick on the underside of her belly. Unusual but you never know. If she was a dog I would say she is probably prolapsing. You might need to see a vet.

I hope some one else can be more helpful

not sure so I would suggest a trip to the vets.
Staffies are softer than you think.

She may have Mycoplasma Synovitis which causes the legs to swell. She'll probably need a dose of antibiotics.

Hi thank you all for your help, this evening we had a good look at her her underneath ie her tummy area seems very hard and swollen, we think that is why her legs seem so far apart we dont think now that her legs are any bigger its just the way she is standing as her underneath is so big, she also look as if she was sitting pushing as if she was trying to pass somthing, i will take her to the vet in the morning, thank you
